There are a few places close to St. John's that like being "around the bay". Petty Harbour is one place and Quidi Vidi is another. Blair and I went over to The Gut where I took the above shot. Along the path that lead to this vantage point were a couple of great look outs where you can shoot down onto the water. There were the usual hordes of gulls swirling about and we set out to try and shoot them.
Most of the gulls stayed down low, but there were a few hardy souls who came up where we were, which made for some interesting perspective shots.
We did get some fast capture shots like the one below, I preferred the more abstract, slow shutter shots.
I made this series by focussing on a particular gull and panning with it as it flew past. The abstract forms were quite interesting.
I had a few more shots from Quidi Vidi as well as from out in the Goulds. A complete slideshow is here.
EDIT: I have just published two folios of photographs of Newfoundland. Go here to buy a unique gift for someone special (or buy one for yourself!).
